NHRC to hold open inquiry into Pedda Dhanwada farmer-police clash on July 28
The NHRC will hold an open inquiry on July 28 into alleged police excesses against farmers protesting an ethanol plant at Pedda Dhanwada. The Commission has directed the Telangana government to facilitate depositions and submit an action taken report within a week
The Commission was approached by an advocate, I Rama Rao, who alleged that the police registered false cases and let loose a reign of terror against farmers agitating against the setting up of an ethanol factory on their lands.
The NHRC, in its communication to the Telangana government, asked it to ensure that all those connected to the agitation could depose before the commission and to make necessary arrangements.
The Commission asked Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Dr Jithendar to submit an action taken report within a week.
