NIA files charge-sheet in Araku MLA murder case

The investigation has revealed that Kalavathi had joined the CPI (Maoist) 20 years ago and was an Area Committee member of the organisation at the time of her arrest.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad unit of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a charge-sheet before the special court for NIA cases in Vijayawada against an Area Committee Member of CPI (Maoist) Sake Kalavathi alias Bhavani (45) in connection with a case booked against her.

The case was registered under Sections 120B (conspiracy) read with 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 18, 20, 38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and Section 25(1A) of Arms Act.


The case was originally registered at Dumbriguda police station in Visakhapatnam relating to the murder of Kidari Sarveswara Rao, Araku MLA and Siveri Soma, a former MLA, by an armed cadre of CPI (Maoist) on September 9, 2018, at Livitiputtu village of Dumbriguda mandal in Visakhapatnam.

The NIA had re-registered the case on December 6, 2018 and taken up the investigation. After investigation, charge-sheets were filed earlier by the NIA against nine accused persons.

The investigation has revealed that Kalavathi had joined the CPI (Maoist) 20 years ago and was an Area Committee member of the organisation at the time of her arrest.

She was the wife of Kakuri  Peddanna, a State Zonal Committee member of CPI( Maoist) and she, along with her husband and other co-accused was part of a 40-member team that was camping in Dumbriguda 15 days before the incident in the instant case.

She was an armed cadre of CPI (Maoist) and used to carry INSAS rifle and was instrumental in providing logistics support to the team that carried out the killing of Sarveswara Rao and Soma.
