NIMS launches spinal endoscopic surgery system inaugurated

Hyderabad: A state-of-the-art Spinal Endoscopic Surgery System (UBE-BONSS), donated by BHEL-GE Gas Turbine Services Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, as part of its CSR initiative, was inaugurated at Department of Neurosurgery, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Friday.
The cutting-edge technology, donated in collaboration with Rotary Club of Secunderabad Sunrise and Rotary Sunrise Service Trust, is expected to enhance the department’s capabilities, which performs approximately 3,500 spinal surgeries annually, a press release said.
The UBE-BONSS is widely known for its effectiveness in minimally invasive spinal surgeries, which typically cost over Rs 5 lakh in private hospitals. However, with the introduction of this system, these advanced procedures can now be performed free of cost at NIMS under the Aarogyasri and CMRF schemes.
Dr Vamsi Krishna Yerramneni, head, neurosurgery, NIMS, emphasised that this addition would be a game-changer for spinal surgery, allowing high-quality care to be delivered to a large volume of patients at no additional cost.
The system was inaugurated by K Sharath Choudary, District Governor 2024-25, in the presence of Daniel C Himelspach, director, Rotary International, Dr N Bheerappa, director, NIMS, Balla Rajasree, JMD, BGGTS, and others.
