Nine dead, 11 injured in Nalgonda accident
The autorickshaw driver was trying to prevent hitting an SUV in front and in the process, was involved in a head on collision with the truck

Nalgonda: In a tragic late evening accident on Thursday, nine persons, including seven women agriculture labourers and an autorickshaw driver, died on the spot while 11 others, all women, suffered injuries when the seven-seater autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a container truck at Angandipet stage of PA Pally mandal in Nalgonda district. The condition of four of the 11 injured women is said to be serious.
Among the deceased were Kottam Mallesh (40), the autorickshaw driver, his wife Chandramma (35) and his mother Peddamma (50). The others were identified as Nomula Peddamma (40), Nomula Saidamma, Godugu Iddamma (48), G Peddaiah and Nomula Anjamma (50), and two other women who died while undergoing treatment at a Hyderabad hospital. All of them were agriculture labourers and natives of Chinthalabhavi in the district.
The accident took place at 6.45 pm when the seven-seater carrying 20 agriculture labourers collided head-on with the container lorry when Mallesh tried to avoid hitting an oncoming SUV that was overtaking the truck at Angadipet, about 51 km from Nalgonda.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed shock over the accident. He enquired with the officials about the circumstances that led to the accident. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased labourers and instructed the medical authorities to give the best treatment to those injured and hospitalised.
Meanwhile, heart-wrenching scenes were witnessed at the accident spot with bodies of the victims strewn across the road. The labourers were returning home after completing transplantation of paddy nurseries at Pothuluru village in Peddavoora mandal.
On getting information, PA Pally police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to area hospital at Devarakonda for treatment. Superintendent of Police AV Ranganath also visited Devarakonda area hospital and consoled the family members of the victims. PA Pally police filed a case and took up investigation.
Earlier in April, 2018, nine women agriculture labourers were killed when a tractor fell into the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project canal near Padamati Thanda village in PA Pally mandal. In June, 2018, 14 women agriculture workers were killed when the tractor in which they were travelling fell into Musi canal near Vemulakonda village of Yadadri-Bhongir district.
