Hyderabad: Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy came out strongly in support of senior BRS leader T Harish Rao, dismissing recent allegations against him as attempts to destabilise the party. Without naming MLC K Kavitha, he advised her against playing into the hands of political opponents trying to weaken the BRS.
Addressing mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan, Niranjan Reddy hailed Harish Rao’s contribution to the party since its inception, during the Statehood struggle and completion of major irrigation projects under the BRS regime. He said Harish Rao earned the respect of both people and cadre through his loyalty to party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao.
“He worked tirelessly, without ego, and remained accessible to all as an activist, MLA and Minister. Targeting him now is nothing short of a betrayal of BRS and Telangana,” he said, terming Kavitha’s remarks unjust and damaging to the party at a time when unity was needed.
Turning to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Niranjan Reddy faulted him for blaming the BRS for the decline of the TDP in Telangana. “This shows immaturity and ignorance of history. TDP collapsed because it opposed Telangana Statehood. Ironically, Revanth Reddy, once its leader, still suffers from its absence,” he said.
The former Minister accused the Congress government of criminal negligence in irrigation, citing urea shortages, stalled Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works and failure to repair Medigadda barrage. He suspected a larger conspiracy by the Congress, BJP and Chandrababu Naidu to defame Chandrashekhar Rao, shut down Kaleshwaram project and divert Telangana’s share of Godavari waters to Andhra Pradesh.
‘Instead of repairing Medigadda, they are using false reports to malign the BRS,” he warned.
