NIRDPR directs Panchayats to prepare Citizen Charters by August 15

Hyderabad: To provide services to the people in a time bound manner and redress their grievances, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) is launching a nationwide Campaign from July 1 to August 15 to enable the Panchayats across the country to prepare Citizen Charters.
Panchayatii Raj Institutions are expected to prepare and publish their Citizen Charters that help in making the citizens aware of their rights on one hand, and make the Panchayat and its elected representatives accountable to the people.
National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj organised the online orientation training on Monday to all the nodal officers of States and UTs, on the importance of Panchayat Citizen Charters and the process involved in preparing the same.
NIRDPR Director General Dr Narendra Kumar inaugurated the training program and released the ‘Facilitators Training Module’ prepared by NIRDPR and shared with all States/UTs. He also laid an emphasis saying that the Citizen Charters will increase the trust between citizens and panchayats.
The Institute Deputy Director General Radhika Rastogi insisted that citizen charters should be used as a tool to bring awareness on the important development schemes being implemented at Panchayat level. Panchayat Raj Joint Secretary Alok Prem Nagar acknowledged the contribution of NIRDPR in drafting model Citizen Charter and helping the States and UTs to taking it forward.
A total 128 nodal officers and other officials of State Panchayat Raj Departments participated in this online training. Dr Kathiresan, Associate Professor and Mr Mohd Taqiuddin, PR Expert, Centre for Panchayati Raj, NIRDPR handled the technical sessions on preparation of Citizen Charter.
