Nirmal: Dalit organisations staged a protest here on Monday seeking action against the people who vandalized the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Bhainsa town by an unidentified person.

Activists and members belonging to different Dalit organisations conducted rasta-roko and protests across Bhainsa Assembly constituency, condemning the incident. Mild tension prevailed when police shifted women, who blocked a road in Bhainsa town, to the local police station. Traffic came to a standstill for a while.

Several parts of Bhainsa segment witnessed widespread protests demanding action against the persons who damaged the statue of the architect of Indian Constitution. The protesters requested police to take steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. They sought stringent action against the perpetrator.

Bhainsa Additional Superintendent of Police requested the protesters to extend their cooperation to the cops who were trying to detect the offenders and to restore peace in the town. He urged them not to believe in rumors being circulated on social media. He stated that steps were being taken to detain the culprits.

On Sunday, an unknown person vandalized the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar located in front of Bhainsa Area Hospital, triggering tension and protests in the town. He reportedly tried to attack bystanders who attempted to capture him. A youngster belonging to a weaker section tried to immolate himself by dousing petrol and setting ablaze in protest of the incident.
