Nirmal: Forest Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy advised farmers to shift to alternate crops such as oil palm and vegetables. He was the chief guest of an oath taking ceremony of members belonging to the agriculture marketing committee of Khanapur, conducted in Khanapur on Sunday. He was joined by Khanapur MLA Ajmeera Rekha Naik.
Addressing a gathering, Indrakaran said that Telangana government was implementing a slew of schemes for the welfare of agrarian community. He cited Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, provision of power supply to the agriculture sector for free, fertilisers and seeds. He said that the government was creating warehouses in every mandal, spending Rs 3 crore.
The Minister stated that the credit of bringing water from Sri Ram Sagar Project to Khanapur segment would go to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He said that the works of a barrage being built across Godavari near Ponkal mandal of Mamada mandal were nearing completion. With the advent of the facility, woes of the farmers would become a thing of the past, he opined.
Indrakaran Reddy requested farmers to draw inspiration from growers of oil palm trees in Aswaraopet and Sattupalli of Khammam district and excel in the cultivation of oil trees. He cautioned that the Centre would not buy bold rice and urged the farmers to explore alternative crops. He congratulated the members of the committee and suggested them to be accessible to the farmers.
Earlier, the Minister laid the foundation stone to a building of Reddy community in Nirmal town and unveiled a statue of spiritual leader Anna Bavusathe at Kolhari village in Gudihathnoor mandal of Adilabad district.
