Hyderabad: In an endorsement to the State government’s success in implementing Telangana Diagnostics (T-Diagnostics) initiative, the Tandur district hospital in Vikarabad was adjudged as the best healthcare facility and the district hospital in Khammam as the second-best facility in the country for providing all diagnostic testing services under one roof to patients, in the NITI Aayog performance assessment report of district hospitals in India, released on Thursday.

The government hospital in Tandur emerged as the best government healthcare facility in the small hospital category with less than 100 beds capacity while the district hospital in Khammam was second in medium sized hospital, with 200 to 300 beds.

“District Hospitals in Khammam and Tandur have all the identified diagnostic testing services. While the hospitals do take proactive measures to ensure the availability and functionality of the required services, the recently launched T-Hubs (Telangana Diagnostics) initiative of the Government of Telangana has been instrumental in establishing the requisite services in every district of the state under NHM, which has also led to a reduction in out-of-pocket expenditure for the patients,” the NITI Aayog report said.

In the availability of diagnostic services category, only 21 hospitals from all states had fulfilled the criteria of offering 14 diagnostic testing services to patients and the two district hospitals from Telangana were among them. Overall, the NITI Aayog assessment of diagnostic services said that Karnataka had the highest proportion (28.6 per cent) of hospitals with all support services, followed by Telangana (19 per cent) Andhra Pradesh (14 per cent), and Gujarat (9.5 per cent).

The special NITI Aayog report on performance of district hospitals in the country is an outcome of collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) and WHO India.

The two district hospitals in Tandur and Khammam are providing a total of 14 diagnostic testing facilities including urine analysis, stool analysis, PAP smear, sputum, haematology, microbiology, serology, biochemistry, cardiac investigations, ophthalmology, ENT, radiology, endoscopy and physiology (Pulmonary function test).

On the aspect of assessment of C-section rates, the district hospitals in Khammam and Karimnagar emerged third and second respectively for having the highest C-section rates in the country.
