Hyderabad: The Nizam College Women’s Hostel constructed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) with an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore will be inaugurated by Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) KT Rama Rao on Wednesday.
The HMDA is also spending Rs 30 lakh for landscaping work around the hostel building which can accommodate 284 students and is spread over 37,163 sq ft, in a G-3 pattern. There is also a provision for two lifts and to construct an additional floor.
The size of each room is 4.7 metre X 4.7 metre and with 72 rooms, the hostel can accommodate about 284 girl students i.e. four students per room, HMDA said in a press release.
For long, girl students of Nizam College have been looking forward to proper accommodation and a proposal made by the management received a nod in 2017 when MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao visited Nizam College on the occasion of annual day celebration of the institution.
Though the original period of construction was nine months it was delayed primarily due to Covid- 19, the press release from HMDA said. Initially, a two-storied hostel with an estimated cost of Rs 6.25 crore was proposed to be constructed in Osmania University campus but the project was later shifted to Nizam College premises.
