Unlike many other Indian States, which allow individuals from other States to enter only if they have RT-PCR negative test, Telangana has embraced all critical Covid cases and have helped them to recover

Hyderabad: Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao on Friday said that the Health Department did not prevent Covid positive patients from other States to access medical services in Hyderabad. “There is no denying the fact that we are facing problems in resource allocation for Telangana patients due to inflow of patients from other States,” he said.
Unlike many other Indian States, which allow individuals from other States to enter only if they have RT-PCR negative test, Telangana has embraced all critical Covid cases and have helped them to recover.
However, patients from other States must realise that Telangana patients are sharing limited resources with them. The Centre is allocating scarce resources like oxygen, vaccines and drugs based only on the patient count of Telangana. “That’s why we are requesting patients from other States to first ascertain whether there are beds available before reaching Hyderabad,” Dr Srinivasa Rao said.
Patients from other States could also end up infecting the local population, which has become a challenge for Telangana. “On many occasions, we requested the Centre to allocate 45 per cent more oxygen, vaccines and drugs because of additional patients from other States. We are ending up sharing 450 MT of oxygen allocated to patients with Telangana with patients from other States,” he said.
