Hyderabad: There will be no change in the existing fee structure for professional programmes, including engineering, for the academic year 2025-26.

With the engineering admission counselling schedule set to be announced in a couple of days, officials have revealed that admissions to all professional programmes would be based on the existing fee structures.

“We have been waiting for the government to clear the air on new fee structures. As the government decided to continue the existing fee structure for engineering programmes, we will be issuing the admission schedule in a couple of days,” said Prof. V Balakista Reddy, Chairman of TGCHE.

This government move follows an ‘abnormal’ hike found in the new fee structures of some private engineering colleges for the three-year block period starting academic year 2025-26.

Some of the proposed fees saw sharp increases that triggered concern among Education and Finance departments’ officials as the State’s financial condition is already in a bad shape. Any fee hike will impact State’s financial condition as the fee reimbursement arrears have already touched Rs 8,000 crore and a hike will increase the burden by another Rs 500 crore to Rs 800 crore annually.

As per the rules, the tuition fee in private professional colleges is revised once in three years, which is due for the block three-year period starting academic year 2025-26.

This time, CBIT has proposed a hike in fee from existing Rs 1.65 lakh to Rs 2.94 lakh per annum, which is nearly double the existing tuition fee. VNR VJIET sought a hike from Rs 1.35 lakh to Rs 2.84 lakh per annum.
