No Christmas feast, gift packs to be distributed among 2.04 lakh families: Koppula

Hyderabad: Minister for Scheduled Castes and Minorities Koppula Eshwar on Friday said the government has decided not to organise the annual Chief Minister’s feast for Christians on the eve of Christmas this year because of Covid-19. The government, however, will continue with the distribution of gift packs to over 2.04 lakh poor families among the Christians.
Speaking at a review meeting on Christmas arrangements here, the Minister made it clear that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao respects all religions and treats every community with respect. “The government has allocated Rs 1,518 crore for minority welfare in the current budget. The government is also construction of a spacious Christian Bhavan in Hyderabad,” he said.
He said that though there will be no feast, the distribution of gift packs which has been going on for the past six years will continue. “There will be sarees, Punjabi dresses and other dress material in these gift packs, which will be distributed between December 12-15 in Hyderabad and December 11-15 in districts,” he said, and directed the officials to make all necessary arrangements.The Minister also inspected the dress material kept ready for packing.
Minorities Welfare Corporation Managing Director Kanthi Wesley and Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Societies Ltd TISCO joint director Yadagiri were also present at the meeting.
