Karimnagar: BRS corporators served a notice to move a no-confidence motion against Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao. In this regard, they submitted a copy of the notice to district Collector Pamela Satpathy along with the signatures of 31 corporators on Monday.

Corporators led by deputy mayor Challa Swaroopa Rani met the Collector at her chamber and served the notice under section 37 of Municipal Corporation Act 2019 as a majority of the corporators were not supporting the Mayor following his announcement of joining the BJP. According to rules, a person with no majority could not hold the office. So, they wanted the collector to take steps to move a no-confidence motion against the Mayor.

Though they are aware that it was not possible to take up a no-confidence motion since the term of council was going to end on Tuesday, corporators served the notice to express their opposition to the Mayor since the latter shifted his loyalty to BJP by backstabbing the BRS.

Sunil Rao, who worked as Mayor on behalf of the BRS, joined the BJP in the presence of the union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday. BRS corporators served the notice to register their protest. They also gave a representation to the collector requesting her to conduct an inquiry into the corruption done by the Mayor during the last five years and to take action against him.

Earlier in the morning, Sunil Rao demanded that the Collector, who is also a special officer, conduct an inquiry into works done in the municipal corporation in the last five years and take action against those involved in corruption. Enquiry should be done into all works such as Smart City, Pattana Pragathi, CM assurance funds and Municipal funds. In this regard, he is going to present a representation to the collector on January 29, the Mayor informed.
