Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Monday said that there was no indication of a third wave of Covid-19 in the State as of now. In any case, the State government was geared up to face any kind of situation.

“Though there are no indications of a third wave in Telangana, the State government is fully prepared to face any kind of situation. There are 27,000 beds available across the State,” he said, adding that the special vaccination drive launched in the GHMC limits on Monday was one of its kind and that no other metro in the country had taken up a drive that could match the magnitude of the drive taken up in Hyderabad.

Speaking after inspecting a mobile vaccination centre at the CBI Colony in Khairatabad along with Health Secretary S.A.M. Rizvi, GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar and other officials, Somesh Kumar said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was determined to establish one medical college in every district. The number of beds had already been increased in eight medical colleges.

“I am confident that in 15 days, one dose of the vaccine will be administered to all eligible persons in the GHMC limits after which similar programmes will be taken up in other areas of Telangana,” he said, adding that people who were reluctant to take the vaccine were also being covered under the drive.

The special vaccination drive to make sure all eligible people are vaccinated in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits has 150 mobile vaccination teams on the job.

“This is a mopup drive. There are 4,846 colonies and slums in the GHMC limits. A schedule to visit all these localities has been prepared by the GHMC Commissioner, along with a list with details of people who are yet to be administered the vaccine,” the Chief Secretary added.
