Hyderabad: The Transport Department has formally rolled out a new system enabling permanent registration of newly purchased vehicles directly at automobile showrooms, doing away with the need for buyers to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

The initiative, which will come into effect from January 24, follows a successful pilot test recently conducted at a city-based automobile dealership, during which, a four-wheeler was registered and delivered to the customer through the new digital platform, confirming the system’s readiness for statewide implementation.

The department further clarified that the system applies exclusively to vehicles purchased from January 24 onwards.

Officials said under the revised process, authorised dealers will submit online applications for permanent registration on behalf of vehicle owners. Required documents, including purchase invoices, statutory forms, insurance details, address proof and vehicle photographs, will be uploaded digitally. After verification, transport officials will allot registration numbers, while the Registration Certificate (RC) will be dispatched to owners through speed post.

The move is expected to save time for the public, reduce crowding at RTO offices and ensure faster and more transparent vehicle registration.

Meanwhile, officials said the facility is applicable only to non-transport vehicles such as two-wheelers and cars, and does not cover commercial vehicles.

As part of the rollout, the Transport Commissioner had earlier held an online review meeting with transport officials from all 33 districts to brief them on implementation and address operational issues.
