Khammam: Officials have claimed that there was no shortage of domestic LPG cylinder supply while commercial consumers were facing a shortage in the district.

DSO Chandan Kumar said raids were conducted at hotels and eateries to check the use of domestic LPG cylinders while steps were being taken to prevent illegal hoarding of the cylinders. Domestic cylinders were seized from some hotels during raids on Thursday. He also inspected LPG warehouses in the city.

According to him, there were five lakh domestic and over 30,000 commercial connections in the district. There were 32 dealers in the district and continuous monitoring was being done for the past few days to ensure the supply of LPG cylinders to domestic users as well as to government hostels. Steps were also being taken to ensure LPG supply to commercial users in coordination with higher officials. Domestic users who have a single cylinder might face a delay in view of a 25-day waiting period while those who have double cylinders might not face any issue, he said.

Due to the disruption in the supply of commercial cooking gas, more than 500 restaurants across the district have been facing trouble running their business. In view of the shortage of commercial LPG, the demand for firewood has gone up, said a function hall manager, Ramakrishna.

Some LPG agencies have displayed banners informing consumers that cylinder booking through Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) or SMS could not be done during the day in view of heavy rush across the country. Consumers could book cylinders from 10 pm to 6 am, during which the rush was low, the agencies said.
