Sangareddy: The shortage of LPG supply following the conflict involving the US-Israel alliance and Iran has affected temples, hostels, hotels and small industries in Sangareddy district. At the Sri Vana Durga Bhavani Temple in Edupayala, temple authorities prepared prasadam using firewood on Friday due to the shortage of LPG supply.
Staff at the Social Welfare Residential Hostel in Isnapur also cooked meals using firewood after the institute faced a shortage of cooking gas. Engineering workers involved in fabricating agricultural implements and construction grills said their work had also been affected.
Due to the shortage of commercial LPG, several hotels and eateries began using domestic cylinders. During a raid on such establishments, officials of the Civil Supplies and Enforcement department seized 47 domestic LPG cylinders from hotels in Narsapur town on Friday. Officials said similar raids would be conducted at eateries across the erstwhile Medak district to check the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders.
Gas agencies also reported heavy rush as customers queued up to collect cylinders. An agency owner in Sangareddy said there was no shortage of domestic cylinders, but bookings had increased by nearly 50 percent as consumers were trying to store cylinders as a precaution. However, he confirmed that commercial LPG supply remained limited.
Demand for firewood has also increased across the district as hotels, residential schools, temples and other institutions struggled to obtain commercial gas cylinders. Organisers of functions were also finding it difficult to procure commercial LPG.
