Hyderabad: There will be no Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET) centres in Andhra Pradesh. The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad, which is organising the entrance test, has removed centres from Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, it planned exam centres in Vijayawada and Kurnool districts of AP.

This decision has been arrived at after the State government dropped the 15 percent non-local seats for which Andhra Pradesh students also competed.

“Since there is no non-local seats quota for AP students for admissions, we have taken legal advice and removed centres from Andhra Pradesh,” said a senior official.

Every year, the TG EAPCET used to see over 55,000 registrations for engineering, and agriculture and pharmacy programmes from the neighbouring Telugu speaking State. Given the large number of registrations from AP students, the university held the test with centres in Kurnool, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Guntur.

Approximately 3,000 AP students enroll for admissions mostly in Telangana engineering colleges.

Meanwhile, the EAPCET 2025 registrations commenced on the website https://eapcet.tgche.ac.in on Saturday

The deadline to apply without a late fee is April 4. Corrections to already submitted online applications can be done between April 6 and 8.

Candidates can apply with a late fee of Rs.250 and Rs.500 up to April 9 and 14 respectively. Applications will also be accepted with a late fee of Rs.2,500 and Rs.5,000 up to April 18 and 24 respectively.

The entrance test for admissions to agriculture and pharmacy programmes will be held on April 29 and 30, while the engineering entrance test is from May 2 to 5. Hall tickets can be downloaded from April 19.

Telangana Students to Get Majority Seats as State Drops 15% Non-Local Quota

Starting this year, Telangana students will get the majority of the seats in professional programmes offered by the colleges in the State. With the State government dropping the 15 non-local quota in which Andhra Pradesh also competed, AP students are not eligible for admissions in Telangana institutions even if they secure top ranks in the entrance tests.

As per the recently issued order, 85 percent of the seats will be reserved in each course offered by the educational institutions in the State for Telangana locals. The remaining 15 percent seats will be categorised as unreserved. Telangana locals and candidates who resided in the State for a period of 10 years, excluding study outside the State, or candidates whose either of parents resided in the State for 10 years, excluding employment outside the State, are eligible for admissions under unreserved seats

Candidates whose parents or spouse are employed with the State or Central government institutions in Telangana can compete for unreserved seats. This meant, Telangana locals can also compete for unreserved seats, getting lion share in professional programmes admissions.
