Khammam: A retired government teacher reportedly died of distress over non-payment of retirement benefits even after nine months of his superannuation in Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s own district.

The teacher, Kurapati Pandurangaiah, who worked as headmaster at Zilla Parishad Girls’ High School in Enkoor in Khammam district retired in July last year. Even after nine months, the Congress government has not provided him with retirement benefits.

According to family members, Pandurangaiah undertook construction of another floor on his house at Srinagar Colony in Khammam, hoping to get benefits from the government after retirement. He came under severe pressure as he could not get his retirement benefits; it affected his health and died on Sunday while undergoing treatment.

UTF leaders Ramzan, Parupalli Nageswara Rao and others visited his residence and paid their respects. They complained that it was the government’s failure to release Pandurangaiah’ retirement benefits that led to his death.

Many teachers and employees were suffering due to non-release of retirement benefits on time and unable to live a peaceful life. Many who have retired from services since March 2024 were facing serious financial difficulties as benefits like gratuity, commutation of pension, GPF and leave encashment were not cleared so far, the leaders alleged.
