Hyderabad: TRS MP KR Suresh Reddy on Wednesday strongly responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks in Rajya Sabha on the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, stating that the latter cannot question the authority of Parliament which was the supreme authority. “What stopped the BJP government to correct the mistakes that it feels were committed during the creation of Telangana?” he asked.

“Not even the Prime Minister can question the authority of the House. The Bill was passed by this House. If the bifurcation of Telangana pains you so much, how many amendments did you bring in to correct the mistake? How many meetings did you convene?” Suresh Reddy, who served as the Speaker of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, asked the Centre in Rajya Sabha.

Participating in the general discussion on the union Budget, Suresh Reddy tore into the tall claims of the BJP government and said the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman’s 90-minute speech left 90 crore Indians out of the budget. He said the so called progressive Budget has alienated the majority of the poor people.

He criticised the government for its procurement policy. “With the talk of private players in agriculture in the Budget speech, we are scared that the three farm laws might make a back door entry. The government should assure that MSP (Minimum Support Price) will continue to remain,” he demanded.

The TRS MP lamented the cut in food subsidies and the meagre allocations for research in agriculture. “The year 2022 was the year to double the farmers’ income. You reduced Rs 10,000 crore for procurement (of agriculture produce). The policy of procurement (agriculture produce) is vague. Farmers sows crops in December and you tell them about the procurement plan in March. Growing crops is not a SWIGGY service. Farmers need time (to cultivate crops),” he said.

He demanded that the MGNREGS with agriculture as was suggested by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and instill confidence among rural labour force as well as avoid misuse of funds, if any. He felt that it was one of the best ideas to double the farmers’ income.

Suresh Reddy stated that due to demonetisation and GST followed by Covid-19, the MSME units across the country suffered severely. He suggested that the Centre which promised to support MSME sector, should impose a moratorium on interests on loans obtained by these units.
