Hyderabad: Dr Rahul Devraj has been appointed as the Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) for a term of three years, a notification from Principal Secretary, Health, Dr Christina Chongthu said. He succeeds senior surgical gastroenterologist, Dr. Bheerappa Nagari.
Dr Devraj is the Head of Urology at NIMS and has led the urology team to conduct 2000 kidney transplants, making it one of the leading renal transplant centres in the country within the government healthcare sector.
Last year, under Dr Devraj, the hospital’s renal transplant programme achieved a unique milestone by completing the first robotic renal transplant in a government hospital setting in South India. In the last three years, NIMS surgeons had taken-up 500 kidney transplants.
Dr. Devaraj on Sunday took charge in the presence of outgoing Director, Dr. Beerappa and said that he would strive to take NIMS to greater heights in medical services, medical education, and research.
The primary goal is to provide state-of-the-art, high-quality, and accessible medical services to patients, he said. Dr. Beerappa thanked the staff, faculty, and doctors of NIMS for their cooperation during his three year term.
