Karimnagar: BRS district president GV Ramakrishna Rao said that nothing would happen to the party with one person quitting the party.

Formed for the cause of a separate Telangana, BRS would always be strong with lakhs of its workers, whether the party was in power or not. No damage would happen to the party with one person quitting, Ramakrishna Rao said while reacting to Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao’s joining the BJP.

Stating that Sunil Rao, who enjoyed posts when the party was in power, had now left the party for selfish gains, Ramakrishna Rao said there was a change in the attitude of the Mayor right from when the BRS lost power in the State.

It was based on instructions of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao that Sunil Rao was appointed the Mayor of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation. He used to praise Chandrashekhar Rao, former MP Vinod Kumar and MLA Gangula Kamalakar as gods and used to severely criticise Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

In just one day, however, he underwent a complete change, he said, adding that the credit of getting Smart City status for Karimnagar went to Vinod Kumar, Kamalakar and former Mayor S Ravinder Singh, and not Sunil Rao.

Stating that Sunil Rao would join any party that was in power, Ramakrishna Rao also said that Sunil Rao had joined the the BJP after Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar refused to accept him into the Congress.
