NPDCL enters into power production, to establish solar units in Karimnagar
Officials have already prepared plans to establish solar units in sub-stations of Karimnagar town, Durshed on Karimnagar outskirts and Boinpalli mandal of Rajanna-Sircilla district at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore
Karimnagar: Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (NPDCL) will shortly enter into solar power generation. For the first time in the state, a transmission company is going to enter into electricity production.
In order to enhance renewable energy generation and reduce dependence on traditional power, NPDCL has decided to establish solar units on its lands.
For this purpose, the power transmission firm has chosen erstwhile Karimnagar district to take up solar power generation as a model project by setting up units in different places.
Officials have already prepared plans to establish solar units in sub-stations of Karimnagar town, Durshed on Karimnagar outskirts and Boinpalli mandal of Rajanna-Sircilla district at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore.
It was decided to set up a 1.5 MW solar unit on 132/33 KV sub-station premises located in the housing board colony in Karimnagar town. Permission was also accorded for this Rs 4 crore worth project.
Similarly, a 2 MW capacity plant is proposed in a 220 KV sub-station in Durshed. Rs 6 crore is the worth of the project. Proposals have also prepared to establish another 2 MW unit in seven acres of land in Boinpalli by spending Rs 6 crore.
The NPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Varun Reddy, who recently visited the proposed sites, instructed officials to complete the unit in the next four months.
Sources said that the work of ground leveling has already begun at the housing board sub-station. Not only three, but more units would come up across the state in the coming days. State wide tenders would be invited from the firms having experience in the installation of solar units.
