Karimnagar: Nurses working in Mother and Child Health Center on Friday staged a protest against the suspension of their colleague Madhavi in connection with a wrong operation done on a pregnant woman on June 21.

They demanded the revocation of suspension orders. They found fault with hospital authorities for initiating action against the nurse by protecting the doctors responsible for the incident.

MCHC doctors performed the wrong operation on Singireddy Malathi on June 21. Based on the complaint of victim’s husband, hospital authorities constituted a committee to conduct enquiry into the incident. The committee submitted a report to the District Collector K Shashanka. Based on the enquiry report, hospital superintendent Dr Ratnamala on Friday issued orders suspending Madhavi besides issuing show cause notices to duty doctor, anesthesia doctor, head nurse and duty nurse.

Enraged over the incident, nurses staged a protest demonstration at the superintendent chamber. Ratnamala, in a statement, was informed to initiate action against duty doctor, anesthesia doctor, head nurse and duty nurse based on their reply to notices.
