Sangareddy: District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and CCS Police Sangareddy stopped a child marriage at the Weaker Section Colony in Rameshwara Banda village, Patancheru Mandal on Friday.
According to DCPU Coordinator P Sravan Kuar Goud, they got a call on child-line number 1098 on Friday that the parents of a girl were preparing to perform the marriage.
Goud, along with CCS Inspector T Bhupathi, Childline Coordinator Mohammad Muzeeb and others reached the house of the minor girl in the colony. After verifying school certificates of the girl, they asked the parents to stop the marriage. They counselled the parents and the girl. Later, they shifted the girl to Sakhi Centre in Sangareddy.
Goud said they will file a case under Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 that could lead to imprisonment of two years and a fine of Rs two lakh. Persons caught encouraging child marriage will face action under the Act, he cautioned.
