Officials gearing up for municipal elections in Khammam and Kothagudem
Election officials in Khammam and Kothagudem districts have released draft electoral rolls ahead of municipal polls. Five municipalities in Khammam and three in Kothagudem will go to elections, with final polling station lists to be announced on January 16

Khammam: With the State government planning to hold municipal elections soon, election officials in erstwhile Khammam have been busy preparing voters’ lists and releasing draft electoral rolls.
Five municipalities — Khammam, Sathupalli, Madhira, Wyra, Edulapuram and Kallur — will go to the polls, while the term of Khammam Municipal Corporation has not ended yet. The newly formed Edulapuram Municipality with 32 wards has the highest number of 45,256 voters as per the draft rolls.
In Sathupalli Municipality, there are 28,411 voters, of which 14,970 are women, 13,426 are men and 15 others. Madhira, with 22 wards, has 25,679 voters — 13,424 women, 12,251 men and four others.
In Wyra Municipality, which has 20 wards, there are 24,689 voters — 12,991 women, 11,696 men and two others. In Kallur Municipality, also with 20 wards, there are 18,866 voters — 9,785 women and 9,081 men.
In Kothagudem district, the newly formed Kothagudem Municipal Corporation as well as Aswaraopet Municipality will go to the polls along with Yellandu Municipality.
The final list of electoral rolls of Kothagudem Municipal Corporation was released on Monday by municipal commissioner K Sujatha. There are 1.34 lakh voters in 60 municipal divisions — 70,314 women, 64,431 men and 30 others.
As per the draft rolls, Yellandu Municipality with 24 wards has 33,777 voters — 17,523 women, 16,250 men and four others. In Aswaraopet, which has 22 wards, there are 8,762 women, 8,084 men and four others.
Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao held a review meeting on the conduct of municipal elections via video conference from Hyderabad on Monday. The draft list of polling stations will be announced on Tuesday.
After receiving objections and complaints regarding the establishment of polling stations, the final list will be announced on January 16, he said.
