OMC first-year MBBS student allegedly dies by suicide; JUDA raises concerns

Hyderabad: A first-year undergraduate MBBS student from Osmania Medical College (OMC) , Dr. K. Bharadwaj Reddy, has allegedly died by suicide, sending shockwaves among the medical community in Hyderabad.
The student’s body was recovered on Sunday from an under-construction site near Erramanzil area.
According to friends, Bharadwaj had been missing since 10 pm yesterday. Initially, his family believed he might have gone to a friend’s place for late-night study sessions, as examinations are currently underway. Later, on Sunday, they were alerted about the incident.
Telangana Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) expressed anguish over the tragedy. The latest tragedy has once again highlighted the relentless psychological toll on trainee doctors in Telangana. In April, Dr. K. Suresh, a first-year postgraduate medical student from Osmania Medical College had died by suicide.
The back-to-back losses within the same institution have reignited urgent concerns over demanding academic schedules, unaddressed mental health strains, and the heavy systemic stressors weighing on medical students across government colleges.
