Warangal: Adding to the disturbingly growing list of farmers who died by suicide in the State, Hinge Sobhan Babu, a 48-year-old farmer from Venkatapuram village in Duggondi mandal, ended his life due to mounting financial pressures and crop loss owing to severe pest problems affecting the yields.
Sobhan Babu, who had been raising chilli crops in his four-acre land for the last three years, was struggling under a heavy burden of debt. Despite managing to repay some of his debts, he still had Rs 10 lakh outstanding. The mounting pressure from lenders and the impact of severe pest infestations on his crop this year left him in a state of despair.
Yielding to the tragic turn of events, Sobhan Babu decided to take his own life by consuming pesticide. Before doing so, he made a distressing call to his daughter, informing her about his desperate situation. His relatives, in a bid to save him, rushed him to a hospital in Narsampet. Despite the doctors’ efforts, they were unable to save his life, and Sobhan Babu passed away in the hospital.
