Hyderabad: Telangana Formation Day celebrations at the State-run Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Erragadda, were marred by a tragic incident as one patient is feared dead while nearly 70 patients have fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning.
Out of 70 inpatients, around nine patients needed intensive care facilities and were shifted to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for treatment. The remaining patients are undergoing treatment for severe gastroenteritis at the IMH campus in Erragadda.
“We have dispatched a team of specialists to provide treatment to patients at the IMH campus itself. Nearly 9 patients needed intensive therapy and are being shifted to OGH for intensive care,” Superintendent, OGH, Dr R K Sahay said.
In response to the crisis, a dedicated medical team from OGH has been dispatched to Erragadda to provide immediate care to the patients.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Tuesday reviewed the developing situation. A committee of senior health officials has also been set up to conduct a thorough inquiry into the situation.
