Hyderabad: The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) is planning to crack down on private institutions and companies that are offering courses in emerging technologies under misleading names.

The Council has decided to shoot letters to four institutions operating in the city seeking information, including whether or not courses have UGC, AICTE, university affiliation or the State government approval.

The move comes following complaints from students stating that some private institutions and companies, which are operating from co-working spaces in areas like the Financial District and Nanakramguda, are admitting candidates to the computer science and engineering, artificial intelligence, cyber security and machine learning programmes under misleading names with hefty tuition fees.

According to complaints, the institutions are offering courses by entering into an agreement with some deemed-to-be universities in the State. They further highlighted that courses are not approved by the regulatory bodies or competent authorities.

“Courses must be offered in the same institutions where the admission has been taken. Any deviation of this rule is a violation. We decided to seek information, including approvals from competent authorities or university affiliation, from four institutions. Letters will be sent to the institutions on Tuesday,” a senior official said.
