Online education system needs comprehensive policy, says Prof Vasuki

Hyderabad: Centre for Staff Training and Development (CSTD), Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), organised an orientation lecture on ‘Understanding Online Education – A Policy Perspective’ on its campus.
Professor Vasuki Belavadi, faculty fellow, UNESCO chair, Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad, (UoH) said the online education system needs a comprehensive policy and educational institutions need to design the policy keeping in view the education policy in a way that was useful to the students.
A comprehensive description of the technology required for online education, use of equipment, technical requirements, etc., was also needed, he said.
BRAOU vice-chancellor, professor K Seetharama Rao recalled the need for online education in the current context.
Teaching and studying in the blended mode was essential, professor Seetharama Rao said, adding that university educators need to be prepared for online education in the face of changing circumstances.
CSTD director, professor Ghanta Chakrapani said in the coming days, the CSTD would organise training classes for the faculty on how to take care of online teaching and how to make online teaching interesting to students.
All directors, heads of the branches, deans, teaching and non-teaching staff members attended the programme.
