An employee of Heavy Water Plant, D Damodar Rao was cheated of Rs. 6.20 lakh by the cyber fraudsters
Kothagudem: Cybercrime police cracked an online fraud case and recovered Rs 4.5 lakh. Manugur ASP Shabarish P, in a statement on Monday informed that on May 20 an employee of Heavy Water Plant, D Damodar Rao received a message on his mobile phone from an unknown number asking him to link his Aadhaar to his BSNL number.
He clicked on the link and called back to the same number and was told to send Rs 10 to check if the number was linked. He then sent Rs 10 using his net banking account to the miscreants and found Rs 6.20 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account.
Based on Damodar Rao’s complaint Aswapuram CI Satla Raju launched a probe into the case and with the help of the Kothagudem cybercrime wing stopped an online transaction done by the crooks and recovered Rs 4.5 lakh.
The ASP appealed to the public, traders and employees not to respond to phone calls and messages in the name of banks and Aadhaar links from unknown numbers. He urged people to be vigilant, not to fall prey to cybercriminals and lose their money through cybercrime.
