Hyderabad: Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy on Friday said that the State government has decided to allow only 50 per cent of the students in degree, PG and professional courses when colleges reopen for physical classes from February 1.

During a meeting conducted with officials of the Higher Education Department, the Minister directed officials concerned to formulate and implement an action plan for each class in colleges. Instructing officials to conduct physical classes duly following Covid-19 precautionary measures, she asked them to regularly inspect public and private educational institutions.

To facilitate the sanitation process, the Minister directed the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) to provide Rs 20 lakh to each university and also instructed officials to instill confidence among students and parents over precautionary measures being taken for holding physical classes.

The managements should ensure that students do not move in crowds, she said, adding that it was the responsibility of the management to ensure students maintain physical distancing. TSCHE chairman Prof T Papi Reddy, Commissioner of Technical and Collegiate Education Navin Mittal, and TSCHE secretary Srinivasa Rao attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education instructed principals of Government/aided/private unaided degree and PG colleges to re-open colleges for all three years of UG and PG students from February 1. They were asked to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 related standard operating procedures issued by the UGC and the Telangana government.
