Siddipet: Former minister T Harish Rao said that the Congress government had neglected the education system by delaying the recruitment of District Educational Officers (DEOs) and other posts.
Addressing teachers and staff of the Education Department during the retirement function of Siddipet DEO Srinivas Reddy on Saturday, Harish Rao said that there were only three regular DEOs functioning in the state, while the remaining 30 districts were being managed by in-charge DEOs.
Stating that additional collectors and officials from other departments were holding DEO posts as in-charges, he said that officials other than DEOs would not be able to understand the system fully, which would eventually affect students. Rao demanded that the government take up the recruitment of DEOs and MEOs without any further delay.
The former minister said that the government had failed to provide scavengers to schools on time and had also stopped funds to the “Mana Ooru Mana Badi” scheme. He asked the government to allocate funds for the development of schools, even if it meant changing the name of the scheme. Rao accused the Congress government of denying DAs, PRC benefits and retirement funds to teachers and other retired employees.
Lauding the work of Srinivas Reddy, who played a vital role in producing excellent results in the district, Rao said that Siddipet remained at the top in Class 10 results for three of the four years that he worked there. The former minister recalled the outgoing DEO’s affable nature in coordinating with teachers, students, officials and public representatives. Srinivas Reddy was felicitated by Harish Rao and other leaders on the occasion.
