Orange alert issued: Telangana braces for four days of widespread heavy rains
The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rains across Telangana from September 25 to 28 due to a Bay of Bengal depression. Orange alerts are in place for 11 districts. Thunderstorms and winds are also expected in some areas

Hyderabad: Brace for yet another major rainfall event, which is expected to trigger widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall in all the districts of Telangana in the next four days. Due to the development of a depression over Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad and private weather forecasters have cautioned public to be prepared for heavy rainfall from Thursday, September 25, 2025, to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
On Wednesday, the IMD-Hyderabad issued an orange (high impact) alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, which can trigger a rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm (11.56 cm to 20.44 cm) in multiple districts.
The two-day orange alert (up to 204.4 mm of rainfall) for the coming Saturday and Sunday applies to Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.
All the rest of the districts of Telangana are expected to receive heavy rainfall (up to 115.6 mm) of rainfall from Thursday to Sunday, the IMD-Hyderabad in its weather forecast on Wednesday said.
The areas under Greater Hyderabad and neighboring districts such as Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Yadadri Bhongir and Medak are also expected to receive heavy rainfall during this period.
The IMD-Hyderabad in its forecast has also cautioned that, in addition to heavy rains, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds will occur at isolated locations in all the districts of the State.
In its overall weather forecast on Wednesday, without naming any districts, the IMD-Hyderabad, in a general alert, has indicated that rains will remain active till October 1, 2025.
