Hyderabad: Relatives of 48-year-old local politician from Dornala, Prakasham district, Andhra Pradesh, Kasa Raghunadha Reddy, who was declared as brain dead by attending team of neuro-physicians at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), have donated the organs of the deceased under State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
Raghunadha Reddy had received grievous injuries in a road traffic accident on December 13 and was rushed to a local hospital and later to NIMS Hospital, for better treatment. Though the doctors provided intensive care, there with no improvement in his health condition and the team of neuro-physicians on December 16 declared him as brain dead due to the road traffic accident.
Jeevandan Coordinator at NIMS took-up grief counselling sessions with the family members of Reddy and his wife Kasa Venkata Laxmamma and his daughters gave consent to donate his organs under Jeevandan organ donation initiative. The Jeevandan officials appreciated the family members of Raghunadha Reddy for the noble act.
The doctors retrieved two kidneys, two corneas and skin and sent them to hospitals in Hyderabad for transplantation based on Jeevandan organ donation guidelines.
