Hyderabad: Orphaned children in the State will now be treated as ‘children of the State’ and they will not be called orphans, Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod has said.

She said the State government will take all the steps for the welfare and protection of these children. The government will don the role of parents for these orphans and take care of them till they become adults, treating them as children of the State, the Minister said.

She was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed State Home buildings for providing accommodation to boys and girls at Saidabad and Nimboliadda, on Friday. Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav were also present.

The two buildings were constructed at a cost of over Rs 7.65 crore. A Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted with over 11 Ministers to look into the number of children who became orphans after the death of their parents due to Covid-19, would bring in an ideal policy.

The committee would submit the report to the State government soon. Rather than the families, the State homes were taking care of these children with love and affection. “Our staff is not only doing their work effectively but also donning the role of parents for these orphans,” the Minister said.

She said that most children, who were staying in the State Homes, were saying that they were happy to be at the Homes instead of their own residence. For the convenience of children, fine rice would be supplied to the Homes from September.

Department of Women Development and Child Welfare Commissioner D Divya said all the necessary amenities were provided to the children at the State homes. “We are training the children in all aspects and providing them a right platform to settle in life,” she added.
