Osmania improves, NIT-Warangal and UoH slip in NIRF rankings 2025
Telangana’s performance in the NIRF 2025 rankings has been a mixed one. Osmania University made significant gains, moving up to 53rd overall and 30th among universities, while NIT Warangal and UoH saw a slight drop.

Hyderabad: It’s a mixed performance put up by the educational institutions from Telangana in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2025, which were released by the Central government on Thursday.
While Osmania University has made an improvement, climbing from 70th position in 2024 to 53rd in 2025 in the University category in India. OU progressed from 43rd position in 2024 to 30th in 2025. However, its rank among State Public Universities dropped from 6th in 2024 to 7th in 2025.
On the other hand, the NIT-Warangal ranking fell from 53rd in 2024 to 63rd this year, while the University of Hyderabad (UoH) slipped by one position to 26th in the overall category. However, IIT-Hyderabad retained its 12th rank.
Overall, IIT-Madras continued to top the overall rankings, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay in second and third positions. Notably, IIIT-Hyderabad secured the 74th position and ranked 89th under the university category.
Among the engineering institutions from Telangana, IIT-Hyderabad secured 7th rank, NIT-Warangal (28), IIIT-Hyderabad (38), UoH (74), SR University (91) and JNTU-Hyderabad bagged 94th rank.
In the pharmacy category, the NIPER Hyderabad and Anurag University secured 5th and 72nd ranks, respectively.
In the law category, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, was ranked the third best in the country. Meanwhile, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University improved its standing from 37th position last year to 24th now among agri and allied sector institutions.
