Khammam/Mahabubabad: Protests for urea have been taking violent turn as farmers, vexed with the alleged negligent attitude of the Congress government, protest the inadequate supply of urea.
In an incident at Mahabubabad town several farmers pelted stones at Mana Gromor fertilisers outlet opposite Surya Theatre on Thursday; gathered wooden logs and set them on fire in front of the shop. As a result of which, tension prevailed in the town.
Speaking to the media, farmers Ajmeera Anitha, Srinivas and others complained that they have been making rounds of the shop for the past few days for urea but they could get a single bag of urea.
The farmers said that when they came to the shop on Wednesday its owner told them to visit the next day and they waited at the shop since early morning hours on Thursday. Even after waiting until evening hours, urea was not distributed to farmers but the shop owner secretly sold urea to his relatives, they complained.
Angry farmers pelted stones and the shop owner, unable to bear the stone pelting, closed the shop. Later, the farmers raided the warehouse and took out the urea bags. This led to a clash between the police and farmers. As the situation escalated, police in large numbers rushed to the spot to control the situation.
