Hyderabad: With the number of girls joining various courses in the Osmania University colleges rising every year, the university administration has opened a new 500-bed centenary hostel meant for girls.
OU Vice Chancellor, Prof. D Ravinder on Wednesday inaugurated the hostel which is located near the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE). The hostel which was built at a cost of Rs.37.5 crore from the University and RUSA funds has reading rooms, a spacious dining hall and a state-of-the-art kitchen.
The hostel for girl students was warranted as the University has seen a substantial increase in the intake of girls in various colleges. The existing hostels were overcrowded, hence the initiative, the OU said. Also, the ground breaking ceremony was performed for the construction of a separate girls’ swimming pool of international standards with the support of the Khelo India programme.
OU Registrar, Prof. P Laxminarayana, OSD to VC, Prof. B Reddya Naik, CPWD Chief Engineer, NN SS Rao, and university senior officials were also present.
