Hyderabad: Alleging that substandard food was being served in the hostel mess, inmates of the Osmania University’s Godavari Hostel staged a protest on the varsity campus here on Tuesday. The protesters brought a large vessel, with curry and chapatis, onto the main road, raising slogans against mess workers.
The Godavari Hostel inmates alleged that they were served a matar curry, along with chapatis, for breakfast on Tuesday. “The curry is watery and chapatis are not cooked properly. When we raised the issue with the mess workers, they told us to inform whosoever we wanted to. With no option left, we staged a protest in front of Arts College,” said Hari Naik, a MA Sanskrit student.
The protesters lamented that they had been served poor-quality food for the past several days. “Rice is not being properly cooked, and a lot of water is being mixed in curry and sambar, making them tasteless and inedible. Despite raising the complaints, the issue persists,” said another student.
Meanwhile, the newly launched Dundubhi Hostel has been allotted to first-year PG students from the Colleges of Arts, Commerce, and Science. Constructed with a capacity to accommodate around 640 students, the facility marks a major addition to the University’s residential infrastructure.
Chief Warden Dr G Srinivas Rao said that the hostel has been formally allotted to students and that the mess facility has been launched.
