Over 2,700 booked in drunken driving checks across Hyderabad on New Year
Hyderabad police booked 2,731 people during special drunken driving checks held on New Year night across three commissionerates. Officials said the drive aimed to ensure road safety and warned that zero tolerance would continue against drunk-driving violations.

Hyderabad: A total of 2731 persons were caught during the drunken driving checking conducted at Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Commissionerate jurisdiction on Wednesday night on account of New Year.
The Hyderabad traffic police caught 1,198 persons who were driving under influence of alcohol and cases were booked against them. Of them, 1,042 were two-wheeler riders, 51 were three-wheeler and 105 were four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers.
In this drunken drive, 82 persons recorded BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 17 persons recorded BAC levels above 300 mg/100 ml. The primary objective of the special drive was to ensure that commuters reach their destinations safely, to deter drunken driving, and to minimise the risk of fatal and non-fatal road accidents during the New Year celebrations, said VC Sajjanar, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.
The Hyderabad police warned that there will be zero tolerance for drunk and drive violations and this special drive will continue. Commuters were requested to cooperate with Hyderabad traffic police.
