Nizamabad: The polling for the Nizamabad Local Bodies Constituency bye-election is being held peacefully in erstwhile Nizamabad district, with polling percentage of 98.06 per cent recorded till 2 pm. Of total 824 voters, 808 have been polled till 2 pm where 475 votes were polled in Nizamabad and 333 votes were polled in Kamareddy district.

Election Returning Officers – Nizamabad district collector Narayana Reddy and Kamareddy district collector Dr. Sharath, are observing the polling activites through webcasting from Nizamabad and Kamareddy collectorates respectively. The polling is being conducted in strict adherence to the COVID-19 guidelines, with only those wearing face masks and normal body temperatures are being allowed inside the polling stations.

The polling commenced at 9 am as per schedule with the poll percentage reaching 67.84 percent by 12 noon and 98.06 percent by 2 pm. About 24 voters were infected with Coronavirus in the constituency, during pre-poll testing conducted a few days ago. The Election Commission of India has supplied PPE kits to COVID-19 infected voters, while a few other voters have opted for postal ballot. They will exercise their voting rights in the last hour before polling concludes by 5 pm.

Several prominent persons including Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy cast their votes in Nizamabad, while MLAs exercised their franchise in their respective Assembly constituencies. TRS party candidate and former MP K Kavitha inspected the polling scenario at Kamareddy, Nizamabad Rural, Nizamabad Urban and Bodhan Assembly constituencies on Friday. TRS has a clear edge over its opponents with about 80 per cent elected representatives or voters hail from the party, even as a large number of voters belonging to Congress and BJP pledged their votes to Kavitha.
