New Delhi: Stepping up its initiatives towards upskilling of hospitality workforce, OYO Hotels & Homes launched the Data Science Academy in September for employees in India and the first batch has successfully graduated under the programme.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister of State for Education, Sanjay Dhotre said: “I believe that skilling our workforce and equipping them to meet the impending challenges will create new opportunities. I would like to congratulate all the DSA graduates and strongly believe that by imparting such skills, OYO is building world-class data science teams.”

He added that India’s startups and Unicorns are flag bearers of Startup-India and our ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.

“We have created tremendous digital infrastructure to ensure that our country takes the lead across the data related economy and AI revolution; especially in the fields of hospitality, fintech, ed-tech, med-tech etc,” Dhotre said.

To enhance the capabilities of existing employees and prepare them for future roles, OYO launched the Data Science Academy as part of its employee upskilling initiatives in September this year.

For the inaugural batch, the company received an overwhelming response of hundreds of applications in India, from which 10-12 per cent were shortlisted after clearing an aptitude test, submitting a case study and panel interview, said a company statement.

Many of the graduates are already in the process of moving to data science roles while the others are likely to take up similar positions in the coming months across revenue management, conversion among other verticals.

Rohit Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer, OYO India & South Asia said: “Our Data Science Academy was born from the simple need to build world-class data talent and provide holistic careers to employees to help make strong unbiased business decisions. We believe that it is important for our employees to not just drive OYO’s growth, but also get better and upskilled regularly to build a strong career for themselves in the long run.”
