Nagarkurnool: Paddy fields got submerged after Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation (MGKLI) sub canal suffered a breach between Appayakunta and Venkataiahkunta on the outskirts of Koderu village in the district on Friday morning. 

The canal got breached due to heavyflow from upstream and the bund got damaged. Accordingly, water entered into the adjoining paddy fields of the canal, local residents said.


A few farmers had to harvested the crops and heaps of paddy was placed in the fields. As water from MGKLI canal entered into the fields and the entire paddy got washed away. A farmer, Chintakunta Venkataiah, who had harvested his crop yesterday suffered huge loss as entire paddy in his field spread over an acre got washed away in the waterflow, residents said.

Similarly, Mannanur Ramaiah too suffered huge loss as his field, spread over 5.5 acres and harvested paddy got washed away in the waterflow. Irrigation officials are about to conduct an inspection to ascertain the reasons for sub canal breach.
