Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Thursday asked the farmers to stand with the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in his fight against Narendra Modi government on anti-farmer policies including for paddy procurement. Speaking at Nalgonda assembly constituency level meeting of TRS here, Jagadish Reddy said that farmers of Telangana have history of playing key role in Telangana peasant movement and also in Telangana agitation. With the same spirit, the farmers should participate in the agitation, which would be waged by TRS against the anti-farmer policies including denial of purchasing of the paddy from the farmers.

Pointing out that earlier paddy cultivation was taken up in only two to three percent of cultivable area by the farmers in the state, he said that the Centre has brought food security act to fixed levy to the states in procurement of paddy as a mandatory saying it has responsibility to cater the food needs of the people of the country. The Centre has promoted paddy cultivation by encouraging marketing of the hybrid seeds of the paddy. It has resulted in increase in the area of cultivation of paddy, he added.

Stating that Telangana state stood in top in paddy production in the country, he said that our farmers achieved the record due to initiatives of the state government including free power to agricultural pump sets, improved irrigation facility and Rythu Bandhu scheme. He reminded that the paddy product in the state reached 1.6 crore metric tons. He said that the decision of the centre not to procure paddy from the states would cause hardship to the farmers in large number.

Indirectly targeting the Congress, he said that there was no truth in the propaganda of some opposition parties saying TRS was working with secret understanding with BJP. He pointed out that BJP government at the centre targeted the TRS government and working with a conspiracy to tarnish its image. Nalgonda MLA Kacherla Bhupal Reddy said that all the grama panchayats, municpalities, market committees and agriculture cooperative societies to pass a resolution demanding the Centre for continuation of procurement of paddy as earlier. The copies of resolutions would be sent to the Centre through the state government, he added. Zilla Parishad Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, Nalgonda Municipal Chairman Mandadi Saidi Reddy and others were also attended the meeting.
