Hyderabad: In a significant development, Pakistan has blocked access for its citizens to the website of Telangana Today (https://telanganatoday.com), a widely read English daily published from Hyderabad by Telangana Publications Private Ltd.
According to the Pakistan government, the action was taken on the grounds that the website was “hosting content containing material that amounts to misinformation and propaganda against Pakistan”.
Telangana Today was formally informed of the blocking by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) through an email dated January 28, 2026 (No. PTA/WAD/112/2021/7).
The restriction follows the publication of a full-page analytical article titled ‘Black Storm Rising‘ on the newspaper’s Rewind page and on the website in June 2025. The article was authored by Ruchi Sharma, a PhD scholar at the Centre for West Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Associate Fellow, International Centre for Peace Studies, New Delhi with a focus on geopolitical developments in South Asia, particularly Pakistan.
In the article, which examined the resistance by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Pakistan’s internal security challenges in dealing with the situation, she detailed how Pakistan’s hybrid regime was facing a deepening crisis as the Baloch insurgency escalated amid economic fragility, political unrest and declining military legitimacy.
The Baloch Liberation Army, she noted, had expanded coordinated, sophisticated attacks, targeting security forces, Chinese interests and infrastructure, while projecting long-term strategic intent.
