Pakistan government’s official X handle withheld in India

The move comes amid heightened tensions escalated between India and Pakistan over recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam

Hyderabad: Pakistan government’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @GovtofPakistan has been withheld in India. The move comes amid heightened tensions that escalated between India and Pakistan over terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that took place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Around 26 persons were killed in the attack which is said to be carried out by Pakistan-based The Resistance Front.

If Twitter users in India were to search for Pakistan Government’s account, a display message would pop up stating, “Account Withheld @GovtofPakistan has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand. https://Learn more.” However, people outside India can access the twitter account.

It is not for the first time that Pakistan’s twitter got banned in India. Earlier it was withheld in 2023 and also in July and October 2022.

In response to the heinous attack, the Indian government, on Wednesday, suspended the Indus Water Treaty and also summoned top Pak diplomat in India. The Central government has announced that Pakistani citizens will no longer be allowed entry into India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES). All previously issued SVES visas to Pakistani nationals have been revoked, and those in India under the scheme have been given 48 hours to leave.
