Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said panchayat secretaries have to play a crucial role in the effective implementation of various welfare and developmental programmes at the village level.
Panchayat secretaries should work tirelessly during the Palle Pragathi and Haritha Haram programmes from July 1 to 10 across the State and make them a grand success, the Minister said. Not confining themselves to mere plantations, they should also ensure the saplings survive. “Extensive sanitation activities should be taken up in the villages to control the spread of seasonal diseases,” the Minister said.
State Junior Panchayat Secretaries Association representatives met the Minister regarding the implementation of PRC at his camp office here on Friday.
The Minister said in the past, there were only 3,396 panchayat secretaries in Telangana. The State government, to ensure one secretary for each panchayat, appointed 9,355 junior panchayat secretaries on a contract basis, he said. The decision taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in appointing junior panchayat secretaries had helped in the comprehensive development of villages, he said.
Stating that the Chief Minister is in favour of junior panchayat secretaries, he informed them that it has been two years since their appointment and promised that justice would be done to them.
In villages that have a high population, the government is exploring the possibility of appointing assistants to panchayat secretaries to reduce their workload, the Minister said.
